The good news about entertainment in Shreveport-Bossier city is that a plethora of high quality entertainment is available in all artistic fields of endeavor. During the first 6 months of 2008, more money was spent on local movie production than during the entire year of 2007 and that is very important to local actors and business people who provide service to the movie industry. Even local musicians are finding more work these days. Tipitina's Music Office Co-Op in Shreveport has been instrumental in helping musicians, filmmakers, and other digital media professionals find jobs. Tipitina’s also provides a job skills program to assist people who need additional training.

The latest hot gossip tidbits from around town

On August 22nd, the James Burton International Guitar Festival Party held under the Texas Street Bridge in downtown Shreveport is the best location for musicians and music lovers. James Burton grew up in Shreveport and he achieved national fame in Elvis Presley's "TCB Band" from 1969 until Presley's death in 1977. Burton’s rocking blues style of lead guitar playing was first demonstrated on Dale Hawkins’ original 1957 hit version of the classic song, "Susie Q." James Burton was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2007 as a member of the famous Los Angeles recording session group named the Wrecking Crew that was repeatedly used by Phil Spector and many other record producers.

One hesitates to venture a guess why, but the media jumped all over this hot news story: Two actors who play the parts of President Bush and former Secretary of State Colin Powell in Oliver Stone’s new movie, “W”, were arrested during a fight on July 12th at a club called the Stray Cat Bar. However, other actors who play First Lady Laura Bush, Mr. and Mrs. Bush Sr., and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice managed to avoid any involvement in the alleged fight.
