Sci-Port Discovery Center is one of Shreveport’s most popular attractions for both tourists and residents because it provides progressively changing, modern space age learning experiences that are fun for people of all ages. Located within the 92,000 sq. ft. science and entertainment center is the huge Space Center, which was expanded in 2006 with the addition of another 25,000 sq. ft. containing a 32 ft. long Foucault pendulum, a rooftop terrace and observatory, a solarium with a sundial that also functions as a skylight, and 90 more astronomy, space science and applied mathematics exhibits to complement the already existing 200 science exhibits. Sci-Port Discovery Center features the world's first open-access, interactive laser SPACE DOME Planetarium where people can use a navigation station to dock a space shuttle at a simulated International Space Station, plus regularly changing IMAX films at the Center’s IMAX Dome Theatre.

Sci-Port Discovery Center works with our schools to help our children learn

Sci-Port Discovery Center developed an innovative Science Carnival Outreach program in 2003 consisting of 40 unique and portable science exhibits that can be transported around to different schools. Each year the traveling exhibits are shown to more than 20,000 students, many of whom attend Title 1 schools and live in underserved rural areas. Sci-Port’s mission is to help people explore the field of science, especially space science, mathematics and advanced technology through school and public workshops, teacher education programs, guest speaker events, birthday party programs, camp-ins and special summer camps. Sci-Port’s successful programs with the schools and its effective work with community organizations have established the Discovery Center as a leader in the field of informal science education in Louisiana.

The Sci-Port Discovery Center is located at 820 Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway near Lake Street on the downtown Shreveport Riverfront. Contact phone numbers are (318) 424-3466 or toll-free at (877) 724-7678.
