Test of your age
How many of you remember this phrase?
"Salami Salami Boloni" (actually spelled bologna) I will give you a hint. It was a line in a show that also had "I yam what I yam!" Anyway, I just recall this as being one of those kid phrases back in the 60's. |

Latenight,
This is the only reference I could find on the Popeye episode I was thinking of: http://honeysucklesummer.atlblogs.co...es/002216.html Do you think you can find this one on youtube? The one where the strangely slurpy-looking natives would bow down to their king in fluid s-shaped movements... bowing once, murmuring "salami"... bowing twice, murmuring "salami"... bowing the third time, "exclaiming "boloni" |

Ha! Ofcourse I remember the Frito Bandito! I remember as a child noticing that we'd not seen or heard of the Frito Bandito for some time, and my mother explaining to me that the Mexican community, up in arms over the perceived slight, had forced Frito Lay to "retire" the colorful character from their advertisements. Thus, the Bandito became one of the first victims of "political correctness".

Speedy Gonzales wasn't before my time, but Frito Bandito definitely was. I've never heard of him in my life.

Just follow the bouncing frito.
That's right you heard me. Sing along and follow the bouncing frito.
LOL, I knew this voice sounded familiar. It's freakin' Bugs Bunny. |

I did some digging and found that Frito Bandito's voice actor was Melvin Blanc who was also the voice actor for (you guessed it) Bugs Bunny, Speedy Gonzales, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and Barney Rubble.

Great find! Thanks for posting and sharing. I had no idea that the Frito Bandito's voice was Mel Blanc's.
