What do people do on Saturday nights?
We're new here, duh. There's always spending several hours in a smokey bar or nightclub, accelerating death, while waiting 30 minutes between bands. Is there anything else to do in Shreveport on a Saturday night? Any nice little coffee houses with live entertainment and good conversation? Any social gatherings or places to meet people without having to shout over the music?

There is always the church house
There are good things about churches. Lots of people and no smoke and yes
they have coffee too and if you like to eat they are good at that too. Don't worry about them reading the Bible to you they only have someone stand for a hour a week and tell stories and talk about himself even a good joke or two but read the Bible no way and they will tell you to send your money to the Lord but they give you there address ! |

it's early I thought you said "spend several hours in a monkey bar" LOL I wouldn't enjoy that too much either. Problem being, I think if you are wanting to hear some Live music, for the most part you are talking about some kind of bar. I'm not sure if it's still there, but somewhere around Centenary College there was some coffee house that would have live music. Buddy Flett of the Bluebirds would play acoustic blues there some nights. |

Here are some other ideas and attractions.... CenturyTel Arena is really nice and hosts everything from concerts to hockey to my favorite, "the big air insanity tour" (motorcycle stunts) I'm not sure if they have a website or not for a schedule of events, but look it up. Downtown Shreveport has had its ups and downs over the past 30 years. It used to great back when it was called "Shreve Square" but a few bad apples ruined it for all. But that still leaves our two casinos. For about $85/mo you can join the University Club that has more sophisticated live entertainment I do believe in a private club setting. Lousiana Boardwalk is much safer than downtown Shreveport and is nice to stroll around on Saturday night. Not sure about live entertainment there though. Too bad Joes Crab Shack isn't bigger and doesn't host bands or do more in that regard. But my personal favorite would have to be the Green Room at Chianti Restaurant on Line Ave. Superior Steak House, also on Line, has live entertainment as well but its a pretty "high dollar" place. But sometimes it is fun to just sit at the bar and eat an appetizer and watch the crowd. Hope this helps. I also recommend Sitter's Registry aka Nanny Network if you need a sitter. Good luck in Shreveport. We have a lot to offer, but you may have to search a little. |
