I still remember where I was on that day. I was standing on the deck of the USS Spruance in Mayport, Florida. We were getting ready to make way and head out onto the Atlantice for some battle group exercises when we got the news that both towers got hit. We immediately started sailing north, but we never got to New York before receiving our stand down orders.
