SPD & Caddo Sheriffs Take a Bite of New Year’s Crime
Illegal Weapons Taken off Shreveport Streets & DWI Citations Issued By:Tom Pace, Executive Editor, SBLive! January 2nd, 2008 Shreveport Police and Caddo Sheriffs Officers worked to “Take a Bite Out of Crime” over the New Year’s holidays. Law enforcement officers targeted high crime areas in two separate operations: 1) Targeting unlawful discharge of firearms during New Year’s Eve, and 2) DWI citations, targeting impaired driving, & other related violations Accompanied by Mayor Cedric Glover, in an afternoon news conference held in Shreveport Police Chief Henry Whitehorn’s conference room, it was announced today that the Caddo/Shreveport Narcotics Unit conducted an operation to reduce illegal activity on New Year’s Eve, especially the unlawful discharging of firearms. The operation targeted specific areas of the city that have a high incident of shots fired calls for service. Agents worked different districts, conducting traffic stops, drug corner checks and criminal patrol. The operation was deemed extremely successful, with agents making five (5) felony arrests and two (2) misdemeanor arrests. They seized 11 weapons and a small amount of narcotics. Other arrests are possible, pending further investigation. In a separate crackdown by Caddo Sheriff’s deputies and Shreveport Police, five persons were arrested for DWI from New Year’s eve to New Year’s Day, with a total of 37 citations issued.
