Needing home
My family of three needs a home....Since Katrina, there is nothing in Shreveport under $600 in areas with a good school district.

No joke! Housing is getting rough around here. I've been renting at $800/mo for over a year and I'm ready to take out a mortgage myself. It has to be cheaper than renting.

Why would you expect good school districts to include super-cheap housing? Isn't that kind of self-contradictory? We want the best there is, but we want it to be cheap enough for anyone to take advantage of!

In today's times? Not much if you ask me. I live in an area that was at one time the area to live in with the best schools. I won't go on and on about how unhappy I am with the school system here but I know from living there in Shreveport/Bossier City, not much really. You have your bad areas, ok areas and then your a little bit better. Ask some here about Parkway High School I bet 20 yrs ago it was the bomb, today its a joke period.

Anyone?
I used to be a Printer until Chemo and Radiation has slowly invaded my bones to the point I do good to get out of bed. I could pay more rent at the time....now I can't. Circumstances have given me custody of my 12 year old grandson. The school he attended last year should be closed. People who have no choice to live "CHEAP" should expect less education for the children?

Of course not. Lets see what we can do for this good lady. Anybody in the membership a landlord or own rental property? Anybody have any connections with local or state government? Maam, surely you qualify for rent-controlled housing. I'll research it.

What kind of cancer did you have? Have you been declared disabled? If she had Guardchief, she'll surely qualify for some assistance with rent. The problem will be finding a decent house to rent that will take Section 8. You need to look in the Thrifty Nickel for places to rent.
Do you have a car? Blanchard schools aren't bad and there is affordable housing in that area. That's one thought that comes to mind. Or how about an apartment? Let me think on this some more. And yes, there are plenty of people on this board that could maybe help.

Of course. They should expect less of everything, that's why it's cheaper. |
