Perhaps this is part of a phenomenom of modern society. Call it "the bigger and better deal" or whatever. Each generation must outdo the last. New sports records must be set. New music must be better in some way. Every movie has to be the best movie you ever saw. Computers get better and faster. Even bicycles barely resemble their 60's couterparts. So naturally the kids must be more extreme in all types of behavoir and play basketball better, soccer better, ride bicycles better, fight better, and so on. It's all part of evolution right?
