Here's yet another black eye for muni-wifi... I hope Shreveport doesn't fall into the same trap.

Sacramento Wi-Fi plan still stalled
Monday, October 22, 2007
(10-22) 08:39 PDT SACRAMENTO, (AP) --

The latest plan to blanket Sacramento with free wireless Internet coverage has hit a financial snag.

The city council in June approved a deal to have Sacramento Metro Connect LLC build the advertiser-backed citywide network.

But Metro Connect hasn't secured enough financing for the $7 million to $9 million plan, and no work has started on the project. It was supposed to be completed by October 2009.

A previous deal with Internet provider MobilePro Inc. fell apart because the city refused to become a so-called anchor tenant, or financial backer.

Other high-profile projects in places such as San Francisco and Chicago have also been scrapped recently.
