New bill looking to raise auto liability amounts

legislation is headed to the House, that would raise the amount of auto liability LA drivers are required to carry for property damage.

I am all for this. One of our employees last year was driving to work with her husband in his truck. A lady in a one or two year old Suburban rear ended them on Bert Kouns in front of the auto mall and shoved them into the back of another car. It totalled the truck, did a small amount of damage to the Suburban, and hardly scratched the third vehicle. The two in the truck both herniated discs in their backs, one had a pelvis injury, and severe whiplash for both. What the injured found out was that the lady only had about $10,000 worth of property coverage, and not even close to enough to begin covering anybody's medical expenses. Furthermore, she lives in the Cedar Grove section of town so no point in suing her. Her vehicle was worth more than her house.

My belief is that you should carry more than adequate coverage in case you do have an accident and injure someone. Furthermore, if you are going to want to drive an SUV capable of lots of damage, then you should have loads of coverage. It should be a state law on behalf of all of us who do the right thing that requires the rest to have to.

You see you would be the bad person in this PC world to ever think such a thing. Your money is their money and their money is their money. It is called milking the system for every last dime. We have the ACLU and slick lawyers to thank for that.
