Favorite Author?
I used to read quite a bit, but haven't recently. I used to like Stephen King, and some Dale Brown and Tom Clancy. So I like the thrillers and techno thrillers are okay. I've read all of Dan Brown's stuff and a lot of James Patterson. Anyone have a favorite current author you'd like to share?

C.R. Dickey and E. Raymond Capt are very good. I like to read books that are related to history and related to facts more than fiction.
|
Isaac, I'm leaning more towards nonfiction these days as well. Thanks for the suggestions.

On the quirky fictional side I've enjoyed reading Alice Hoffman and Ellen Gilchrist.
John Grisham has some good suspenseful court/law related dramas. Of course to me the books were better than the movies. I enjoy reading a classic every now and then such as Anna Karenina and Wuthering Hights. For downright fun Jill Browne the author of the Sweet Potato Queens (about Southern women we all know) is hilarious! How's that for a variety of chick lit???:D |

I am currently about halfway through reading the Holy Bible for the third time and I learn so much each time. The living Word is a ever growing thing. Attachment 1731 You do not need a church or a preacher to pick up the Book and read it !! |
I'm slowly making my way through the Bible as well!:)

I don't know the witch of Endor. I don't follow the comment about hot or cold. And I would say failure to take control of his own destiny cost Saul his life. But what do I know, being a Pagan? |

>Male witches are labeled no different than the females.
This is correct, they're both properly called "dorks." |

It moves a little slowly, wait for the movie. Spoiler alert: The twist at the end is that Jesus isn't really dead. It's a total "Sixth Sense" ripoff. |
Another acceptable term for Wiccans is "The kids with the black eye makeup that nobody wanted to eat lunch with."
Come on, if you pick such a fruity "religion" you have to expect some teasing. I just wish we had some Scientologists so you could pick on somebody, too. |

As for teasing, I don't tease people about their religion, no matter what it is or what my opinion of it is. I set this example in hopes others will follow, yourself included. Now let's get back on topic and talk books now. |
>I don't tease people about their religion, no matter what it is or what my opinion of it is.
Religion is one of the best things to tease people about because it's so irrational and people usually believe in it very strongly but can't explain why or logically defend their beliefs. |
Joe until you dig deep enough to understand the three levels of teaching I can understand why you think like you do. Your loss. I bet if you live long enough Pascals Wager might come into play even for a hard ass like you. I am not a door mat Christian. If I do not agree with a religion such as Muslims, Jew or Pagans I will take a stand. I know you need to see the numbers and a test tube before you can believe. A fool in fools paradise.

I like Graham Hancock, Hal Lindsay, mostly historical/educational....
Anime, are you familiar with the "west memphis three"? (wm3.org) They were wiccans who were unjustly accused of murder, mainly because of their "weirdness"- its an interesting story....:peace: |
I enjoy Margaret Maron books The Deborah Knott Series. Great books, they are who dunnit books but she is good at hiding the murderer and she throws comedy in with it. I have her whole series. If you like a good mystery try them but get the 1st book of the series first because each book picks up where the other ended. The first book is called Bootlegger's Daughter.

This weekend I read James Lee Burke's A Stained White Radiance. Burke combines Southern themes and real life Louisiana locations in his stories. There are a series of books about Detective Dave Robicheaux, who reminds me of a cajun Alex Cross.

If you guys need a few pointers to help with your ladies read Nicholas Sparks.
He wrote The Notebook (made into a hit movie) and The Wedding. Of course I almost felt like I was reading fantasy instead of fiction because I didn't know a man could write with such a romantic flair and grasp for female emotions. Okay now I'm sure I just scared you all off! Oh well... |
Letter To My Girlfriend
I wants to know what your doin tonight Wish I could see if everything was alright Hold you long in my arms until its light Your smilin face would make a wonderful sight I wants to be with ya, love with ya, eat with ya, sleep with ya, stay with me all of my life I loved ya darlin when you was only sixteen Was the sweetest thing to enter my dream When were together then my life is fulfilled I love you darlin I know I always will I wants to be with ya, love with ya, eat with ya, sleep with ya, stay with me all of my life I close my letter but never my love Take it there to ya heaven above Get me back to you safe and sound The day that I leave the prisoners ground I wants to be with ya, love with ya, stay with ya, sleep with ya all of my life Stevie Ray Vaughan lyrics |

He just thinks like a man. Then removes all reason and accountability. Also, "The Notebook" lost its opening weekend to "White Chicks" so I'm not sure if it counts as a "hit movie." |

I just figured he was gay or metro to write like that. After reading the book jacket he is married so definitely metro. Okay now who on this board saw The Notebook and who saw White Chicks? Come on now fess up!!:p I've only seen The Notebook no way could I sit through White Chicks after seeing the previews.:nono:Very lame! |
I was fortunate enough to see neither.
I want to make sure I'm not being misunderstood to be saying that popularity has anything to do with quality. I'm sure "White Chicks" was terrible. |
