2007 Fundraiser to Help Feed Hungry and Homeless in Shreveport-Bossier

The Christian Service Telethon on Comcast Cable Channel 6 will feature four nights of special programming on City Wide TV. The Live Cable Telethon will air 12 noon to 4 pm this Sunday, December 9th. Tom Pace, SBLive! Executive Editor at www.shreveport.com, will serve as Telethon Host. Special programming will include performances by local church choirs; highlights of prior Telethons, and videos produced by local high school and college students.

As the year comes to an end, the staff at Christian Service looks back at the tremendous support offered to relieve the suffering of the victims of natural disasters. The Christian Service Program participated in the relief efforts to help give hope through sharing our resources with our neighbors who lost so much.

In addition, Christian Service did not overlook the hungry and homeless in our area. In the 37th year of service to Shreveport and Bossier, the Christian Service Program continued to provide these basic needs:

• 200 meals a day at the new Hospitality House: 73,000 per year
• Shelter for men and women at the Herbert House and Mother Stewart House,
• Family housing to those with low or no incomes through the Samaritan Homes,
• Clothing to men, women and children from individual and church donations;
* Assistance in paying utility bills, and medicine to struggling families.

Christian Service spent $94,228 in serving the homeless and hungry in 2007.

Because private donations are the lifeblood of Christian Service, the annual telethon, once on Time Warner Cable, is now continuing through the generosity of the good people at ComCast, is the largest fundraiser of the year and has raised more than $1.3 million since it started.

Christian Service now asks for your support with this annual event because poverty and homelessness do not go away.
