Worthy Cause!
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is this Saturday! I'm going to be there.
If any of you wish to help raise money for a very common disease (breast cancer) in women (and even men) come on out and walk or run! Two of my daughters and I walk it which is the case for most of the folks! It starts at Mall St. Vincent at 8:45 and it's a 5K. It's fun and you get your exercise done early!

I think it's great you are doing this Pokie! Hats off to you but enough of our life at this house if given daily to cancer so I'll sit it out. Did you know more money is given to breast cancer research than any other cancer research?

The preservation of boobs is something both men and women can get behind.

Unfortunately Joe ( and I thought you were very smart)when breast cancer is involved they don't usually preserve them, they end up removing them! All in an effort to preserve life.

Exactly, which is why we need research to prevent it. This doesn't raise money for performing mastectomies, it raises money to try and make them unnecessary.

I am not sure the disease will ever be eradicated totally but the survival statistics are much better. At the San Antonio Breast Cancer last year evidence was presented that the overall incidence of breast cancer is diminishing which is interesting and good! But did you know that the incidence of lung cancer in non smoking women is up? Second hand smoke is likely that culprit.

If the cause was SHS why would the rate be increasing as the SHS exposure rate is decreasing? Is that your conclusion or are you quoting somebody else? |

The weather was perfect for the Race for the Cure! It definitely had a hint of fall to it. It was great being part of such an important event. It's very moving to see all the ladies in their pink survivor shirts out fighting the battle against breast cancer! Cheers to you folks! May you have long happy lives!

I bought the pink Brawny paper towels at kroger. And a few pink cans of Cambell's soup too. Susan G. Komen must be a really big deal to have help from national corporations like Brawny and Campbells.

Nancy G. Brinker is the sister of Susan G. Komen and founded the Race for the Cure 25 years ago after her sister died of breast cancer. Not only has she raised funds for the cause she has raised awareness in how important early detection is! The survivor stats go up tremendousley if the cancer is detected early. So remember everyone and remind your loved ones to...
1. Do monthly self breast exams. 2. Get your yearly mammograms. 3. See your doctor annually and listen and talk and tell him/her of any problems you are concerned with.
