My very first plane flight was on a Delta DC9 back in the 70's. The stewardesses were so courteous and attractive back then, and everything including the passengers seemed so pleasant and professional. My how times have changed.

My first plane trip was went I left for Basic training 7 years ago. When the plane was approaching the terminal, we all saw a very large rust-like patch of color across the plane. It looked so much like rust that I couldn't stop myself from making weird faces at the plane. My sister picked on me about it. As the plane got closer, it turned out to be the airline's logo which wasn't quite so scary.

Deregulation was in 78.

Now you get crappy service and ugly stewardesses, but it's dirt cheap. A ride on a 767 today probably costs you half or a third of what that DC-9 flight did and gets you there in half the time.

People in this country want cheap more than they want good. They vote good with their mouths but cheap with their wallets.

Nodding, Walmart is proof of that. Everyone cries wolf, but then everyone shops there to save a buck.

Some of us don't cry about Wal-Mart and are more than willing to pay the higher prices at the competition just to avoid the hassle associated with shopping at Wal-Mart

It takes 5 minutes just to find a parking spot and another 10 to walk the parking lot. Then you've got acres and acres of aisles to deal with, and once you find everything you need (because it's Monday and they rearranged the store again), you gotta wait to check out, because out of 50+ registers, only 3 are open. Now that's not to say I never shop at Wal-Mart....heck, I live in Natchitoches....my options are kinda limited.

I dislike them because our ideas of convenience clash, not because of how they treat their employees. Nevertheless, I agree with the statement you made, just not the example you used.

No this sister does not and will not shop at WalMart. I almost choke when I say this but I agree with Everything Brain said about them. I must add to it though I hate the riff and raff that are frequently shopping in the store. I constantly feel like I need an armed body guard to shop with me. The store is usually filthy to the point of disgust. The checkout clerks are just plain stupid and obnoxious more often than not. There are exceptions to this.

I have a brother who is a manager at a Walmart in Texas and he will agree with everything that I say and then some. The way that they treat some of their employees is horrendous to say the least. The insurance they provide their employees that are lucky enough to get it is pretty pathetic as well. They put limitations on some of the therapy for say blood disorders that their employees can get that is absolutely irresponsible to withhold necessary therapy from a patient. Most of the employees are low wage earners and yet they have high deductibles and high co insurance percentages.

I could go on and on but won't. It's almost time to go shopping at TARGET!!!

I've been on more Delta flights than I care to remember. From Newark, N.J. -> to Atlanta, GA -> to Shreveport, LA Of course this was all SOME TIME AGO.

The idea of a plane flight now.. is just not all that appealing to me anymore.

And I'll admit, that this all so backward thinking, in this day and age. But I've been on the City Of New Orleans train from New Orleans to New York a time or two. And have been on a train ride to Denver as well. Sure it takes like a day and a half to get there. But spending that time in the lounge car, havin' a drink and watchin' the country roll by, was quite the experience. Visiting with strangers in the dining car (no one is in a real hurry on a train ) And by the time I get to where I'm going. I'm completely relaxed and ready to party. Instead of that nasty feeling after a plane ride.

If passenger train travel were about a fifth the price it is now it might attract some customers. Until then I'd rather save money (fly coach or even business class) and get there much, much sooner.

You people need to realize that Wal-Mart benefits even those that don't ever shop there by keeping those people out of regular-people stores.

I enjoyed flying a lot more before my head will filled with images of 9/11... I'm a "control freak". I would also enjoy flying a lot more if I was piloting the plane myself. But just sitting back and adding mass to a 400mph ballastic missile is not my idea of a fun ride the way it used to be.

To be technical and annoying, an aircraft isn't a ballistic missile because it uses aerodynamic control surfaces to achieve level flight, it doesn't follow a ballistic path. If it did the ride would be much faster but much less pleasant for everyone involved, although the view would be spectacular.
