Remember her?
'Queen of mean' hotelier Helmsley dies
http://www.beaufortgazette.com/24hou...13079183c.html Leona Helmsley, the cutthroat hotel magnate whose title as the "queen of mean" was sealed during a tax evasion case in which she was quoted as snarling "only little people pay taxes," died Monday at age 87. Helmsley died of heart failure at her summer home in Greenwich, Conn., said her publicist, Howard Rubenstein. |

This should make Michael Vick's Day

Leona Helmsley's dog will continue to live an opulent life, and then be buried alongside her in a mausoleum. But two of Helmsley's grandchildren got nothing from the late luxury hotelier and real estate billionaire's estate. Helmsley left her beloved white Maltese, named Trouble, a $12 million trust fund. |

I'm sorry but that is one ugly broad! The two grandkids that did get money have stipulations that they must visit their father's grave once a year. Who's keeping up with that? It all sounds a bit odd! I'm sure the executor of the dog's inheritance will make out fine too. How much dog food and diamond collars does one little pooch need?

Trust funds don't "avoid estate taxes" any more than any other means of passing on money.

Joe IANAL but if I put my house into a trust fund, then pay "rent" to the trust fund for living in my house, is that not putting money out of my name (one pocket) into the trust funds name? (another pocket) "Rent" is just one example of "financial planning" to "preserve" one's estate after death. Not arguing mind you, just talkin'...
