Shreveport Chamber to Honor ‘Dave Gibbons’ as Business Leader of the Year
Award to be presented at 2008 Annual Membership Banquet, Jan. 10th at 6pm By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, SBLive! January 9th, 2008 Dave Gibbons, Plant Manager of General Motors Shreveport Operations will be honored as Business Leader of the Year by the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce at its Annual Membership Banquet to be held Thursday, January 10th at 6:00 p.m. at the Shreveport Convention Center. The award is presented each year by the Chamber to an individual who owns, operates or bears principal responsibility for operating a business in northwest Louisiana that has a substantiated history as an established business executive, is a proven leader, and has made significant contributions for the betterment of Greater Shreveport. Gibbons was selected by the Chamber’s Senior Council chaired by Past Chamber Chairman of the Board Reginald Abrams of Abrams & Lafargue law firm. As plant manager, Gibbons has overseen the production of almost one million vehicles produced in Shreveport including the Chevy S-10, GMC Sonoma, Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon and HUMMER H3. Gibbons lead the 2003 start-up of GM’s new state-of-the-art assembly complex and most recently played a key role in securing almost $80 million for the production of the Hummer H3T pick-up. “General Motors has been recognized by the Chamber on several occasions as an Industry leader. This time, we’re honoring the business man--the person who has been on the forefront in our community and throughout the world sharing why Shreveport is great for GM and helping us to lead other industries to Northwest Louisiana,” said Chamber President Dick Bremer. General Motors, headquartered in Pontiac, Michigan, started operations in Shreveport in 1981. The Shreveport Assembly Plant currently employs over 2,000 and generates billions of dollars of global revenue for General Motors. Gibbons began his career with General Motors in 1980 and came to Shreveport in 2002. He serves on a long list of civic and charitable organizations. His service includes organizing Katrina and Rita hurricane relief efforts and taking existing programs that help eliminate the fear that children may have before undergoing surgery or medical procedures to a national level. |
