Post 2007 Petrosun Independence Bowl: 44,600, and Counting

2007 Petrosun Independence Bowl: 44,600, and Counting for December 30th Game

Alabama and Colorado to Arrive in Shreveport, Louisiana December 25th& 26th

By Tom Pace, Executive Editor, SBLive!
December 19th, 2007

The 2007 Petrosun Independence Bowl could be a Sell-Out….if, ticket sales continue at the current rate. According to 2007 I-Bowl Chairman, Joe Darwin, as of Wednesday, December 19th, 44,600 tickets to the 2007 Alabama-Colorado game have already been sold, and, Darwin says, orders keep coming into the I-Bowl Office. Seating capacity for Independence Stadium is 49,186. Call 318-221-0712 for tickets, or purchase on-line at: www.independencebowl.org. (Bowl Tickets can be picked up at Will Call at Independence Stadium, on the day of the game.)

Teams will be arriving next week, with Alabama coming on Christmas Day, and Colorado flying-in, on December 26th. There will be numerous activities involving the teams for the public up until game day, Sunday, December 30th in Shreveport.

The annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Breakfast is scheduled for 7:30am, Thursday, December 27th, at the Bossier Civic Center. All players and coaches from both teams, along with FCA and Independence Bowl personnel, will be in attendance. The public is invited to this event. Tickets are $5, and can be purchased at the door. According to FCA Director, terry Slack, The breakfast will feature 3 players from each team, speaking about the role of FCA on their campus.

The Minuteman Luncheon is always very popular, and this year, Darwin says, it’s scheduled for Friday December 28th, at the downtown Shreveport Convention Center, adjacent to the Hilton Hotel. Tickets are $30.00 each. The program will start promptly at 11:50am. Parking is complimentary and the gates to the parking garage will be open upon your exit. Only a limited number of tickets remain, so call the I-Bowl office at 318-221-0712 to order yours as soon as possible.

The Louisiana Boardwalk is again hosting the Petrosun Independence Bowl Pep Rally. The Battle of the Bands will take place from 7:00-7:45pm Saturday, December 29th…and, it’s free to the public. This important reminder from Bowl Chairman Joe Darwin: the Pep Rally site has been moved to behind Bass Pro Shop (along the Red River). You can see Colorado's football team, their band, plus their mascot, Ralphie (1,300 pounds of bison on the hoof) … along with the University of Alabama's Million Dollar Band. This is sure to be lots of family fun. The public is encouraged to arrive early for the best parking.

Darwin is also very excited about this year’s Lift Up America event. Tyson Chicken will be donating a truckload (over 30,000 lbs. of chicken) into the Shreveport-Bossier area. United Way has designated over 40 agencies to receive this generous gift during the holiday time. Players will be assisting with unloading chicken and presenting it to the agencies. *Note: If you wish to volunteer, please contact Amy at the I-Bowl office, 318-221-0712.
