How true this is. But somehow I don't always trust that the reason (or excuse) given by a judge is really THE reason he makes a particular decision. Who knows what goes on "in chambers" behind closed doors.

Well the thing is this. Most of these murderers and rapists are in jail because they plea bargained the deal that way in order to save taxpayer dollars instead of risking the death penalty (which many would have likely been convicted of).
