When i was growing up my dad would drink and he would say poems to us. We thought they were funny but I remembered them. Here goes.

Carnation Milk

Carnation Milk the best in the land
Comes to the store in a little red can
No tits to pull, no hay to pitch
Just punch a hole in the son-of-a-b*tch.

Here is another that was so true to us older generation.

Whem me prayers so early said
Who tucked me in me little bed

Who took me from my cozy cot
And sat me on an ice cold pot
And made me pee when I could not

Well, the one my dad said to get us all laughing was..

Beans beans the musical fruit,
the more you eat the more you toot.
The more you toot the better you feel
so eat beans with every meal.

so lets have beans at every meal

My dad would sing.. (as he ate one)

"Bananas are my favorite fruit because they have appeal."

"The Lumps aren't so bad, but the green mist burns the eyes"

"That's how jet propulsion got started."

He sang that one too!!!! How funny!

I like those but Me Mudder has always been my favorite. For some reason it is got a lot of truth there.

I have a 3 year old and a 5 year old, both boys. I am reading them the real "Brer Rabbit" stories every night. These are awesome. We are reading the old vernacular, which at times can be very difficult to "translate" which I have to do often for the boys to understand the story. I guess my point is I hope when they are older they can say "I remember reading these old animal stories, what ever happend to them".

Burning a little midnight oil Purpa ? Well Brear Rabbit is one of my favorites but you must know it is not PC to talk about Tar Baby. I know of a few that think they have a Tar Baby tan but it is just painted on :laugh:

Well that is the name my mother called us growing up when we were in a bad humor....Crabby Appleton...I have passed it on to my girls...now isn't that compassionate???:laugh::laugh:

You sound like a good daddy purpahurl! Keep up the reading! It makes a huge difference in their education to start reading even to them as infants!:)

I have two grandkids age 4 and 5. Their favorite books are the 5 Little Monkeys and There Was An OLd Woman That Swallowed A Fly and There was And Old Woman That Swallowed A Bat.

Those two books can get kind of long fast though! If you try to skip a section they know it too!:) How are you feeling today Pie?
