Should Downtown be Shutdown at 2?

A City Council member has recently stirred up discussion whether downtown Shreveport bars should be able to continue to serve alcohol past 2 a.m. Of course, all of Shreveport/Bossier City is required to stop serving alcohol at 2 a.m. with the exception of downtown. The bars were given this privilege after the casinos petitioned for a waiver of the rule. Should bars be able to continue serving alcohol till 6 a.m., or should they be forced to close their doors at 2 a.m. like everyone else?

I say no. Even back in the days of humpreys, sports page, and open containers at the square, I think they stopped serving after a while. 2am seems reasonable. If you can't find someone to go home with by then, well, you probably ain't gunna.... That's what why cable tv was invented...

Personally I could care less.. my bar-hopping out all night drinkin' days are LONG OVER LOL

Apparently, here lately there's been a number of 'disturbances' downtown past that 2am time frame, and they are wanting to increase the police presence down there. They've asked the Caddo Sheriffs Department to help with these patrols. And I believe Sheriff Prator has said they would help, but only if they start closing down at 2am. (if I heard correctly)

the days of the old "Shreve Square" are forever gone I do believe.

Prator needs to quit counting cheese sandwiches at the prison and get his men down town to clean up the gangsters. It is just a few that are making it bad for the many.

If my alarm at my Co. goes of and the Police come they charge me $75. I think they ought to charge these bars per cop every time they have to come down there. Or do like New Orleans and park a couple of drunk vans down there and start hauling folks off.

1. Prator isn't in charge of policing downtown Shreveport.

2. I'm of the opinion bars should be able to be open 24/7 if they want to.

And I don't see where downtown shreveport is the domain of the sheriff's office anyways.. ?

personally I don't care how late they stay open.. simply doesn't affect me.

I was from a town where everything closed at 12 a.m. so to me 2 is really late and I can't imagine why anyone would want to stay up and drinking til 6 the next morning!
Oh well doesn't affect me either just don't really get it.

yeah now that you mention it, I'm not for government telling private businesses how to run their business. I guess I'm surprised that obvious dangerous places (statisically speaking) are so popular to begin with. It seems like after a rape and a murder or two, that people would stop going to these places all by themselves, with or without government's helping hand.

I think for the most part a certain part of the population 'stopped going' :peace:

And the ones that are too stupid to stay away get killed. The problem fixes itself. Why are we screwing with nature?
