Rats in the kettle at the Peking Moon

This restaurant got closed down yesterday. It was told by a reliable source that PSEG needed to use Amin's entrance in the basement to assist another shop that was having a gas leak, the service worker went into the basement of Amins and discover a butcher chopping meat, that's fine, but he was putting the meat in a crate on the floor (not good) but wait there's more, there were 20 dead rats on the floor. The service worker left the site told his boss and the city inspectors moved in.They noticed that the so called "rats" which were reported were no longer there. The inspectors then came across a padlocked door and instructed one of the cooks to unlock it. This is what they found other workers doing outside behind the restaurant.

Need I say more??

AnimeSpirit 05-26-2007 12:33 PM

Yes and I remember hearing of one culture where rats were as cats were in Egypt, like Gods. People were required to walk amongst them in bare feet. Still, I will never eat one.

This is why, while I was overseas, I ate at McDonald's. :D I knew what kind of meat they were serving.

LateNight 05-26-2007 12:38 PM

That's just wrong !!!

I am sick! Thanks Isaac! I will never eat in a Chinese, etc. restaurants again!

Texasbelle 05-26-2007 09:44 PM

I am finished with Chinese restaurants forever. If I can't watch them cook it like at Tokyo, then it's not happening.

mixmaster 05-26-2007 09:46 PM

Maybe this should have been posted in "Entertainment" or "Comedy" ??

Imagine the morning after ingesting those talons!!:sweatdrop:

Isaac-Saxxon 06-14-2007 06:29 AM

I would rather not imagine what that talon may feel like as it returns to the sea or in our case Red River

Texasbelle 06-14-2007 08:08 AM

I think you eat the foot and use the talon to pick the scraps out of your teeth!:D :D :D

You so funny grasshopper. I think you would need more than a toothpick to get the chunks or rat out of your teeth.

Guess what is for dinner girls :D:D Yes you can even eat it in a crock pot ;)

SBCmetroguy 09-23-2007 02:00 PM

Our culture is so crazy. If I don't know what it is, I'll eat it and assume it's chicken. I think the "chicken" I had at a Chinese buffet in Tyler yesterday wasn't really chicken, but I enjoyed it still.

vixweb 09-23-2007 04:53 PM

I couldn't imagine eating at a chinese buffet...:yuck::barf:
No way-

When you cook up a big mess of chitlins and eat them there is no question what your eating, so you don't have to worry.

Wow, that's....sad is the best word to describe it.

rhertz 09-25-2007 12:00 PM

One time we ordered Kung Pao Shrimp (with peanuts). The waiter kept repeating our order back to us, "Kung Pao Shrimp with Peenus". We kept giggling and could hardly place the rest of our order.. :D

No, I'm pretty sure that "peanuts" cost less than such a delicacy as Diced Monkey ***** which has to cost at least $20 per lb... :D Monkey is more rare than Chilean Sea Bass or Redfish.... hehehe :D

rhertz is well versed on the ways of Asian food. Everything is priced by the pound and monkey is no exception. I see this thread on quick links all the time so google must have it ranked high. Getting cold so it is time to get the kettle out and warm up some left over rat stew. rhertz do you have a recipe for stewed rats ?

Recipes

Stuffed Dormice / Ancient Rome
Prepare a stuffing of dormouse meat or pork, pepper, pine nuts, broth, asafoetida, and some garum (substitute anchovy paste.) Stuff the mice and sew them up. Bake them in an oven on a tile.
Mice in Cream (Souris à la crème)
Skin, gut and wash some fat mice without removing their heads. Cover them in a pot with ethyl alcohol and marinate 2 hours. Cut a piece of salt pork or sowbelly into small dice and cook it slowly to extract the fat. Drain the mice, dredge them thoroughly in a mixture of flour, pepper, and salt, and fry slowly in the rendered fat for about 5 minutes. Add a cup of alcohol and 6 to 8 cloves, cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Prepare a cream sauce, transfer the sautéed

Pocahontas 10-30-2007 02:37 PM

And how often do you dine on rodents, purpahurl?

:laugh: That's a good one. I prefer mine fried up crispy with some grits on the side.

Rhertz: last year I deboned some chopped them in a quisinart with green onion, shaved carrotts and made Steamed Dumpring (pot stickers). Imperial Cathay would have been impressed. Of course I did not add card board to mine like some China Town vendors I read about.

LOL, I love pot stickers. I'm not crazy about pork dumplings, but the chicken pot stickers at Target (I forget the brandname) are darn good. They are in a bag in the frozen section. I had them for supper last night. :D The key is the sauce. I use Ming Tsai's Dim Sum dipping sauce. In a jar in the Asian section.

Nothing wrong with eating squirrel IMHO. I never done it but my grandpa sho did.. :D Now that I think about it, hampsters look pretty good, about the size of quail or dove. I love to eat small birds.... Why not animals? The quail at Chianti's is my all time favorite recurring dish over the decades. Mrs Hertz loves to watch me pick through the little bird bones..... Ummm Umm Good!

Boy Hertz you're really pulling me out there, if I'm not mistaken this quail either has a blackberry suace or maybe a cherry suace. I may be thinking of another restaraunt though. I remember eating quail there. The best i've had is home cooked.

By the way Bau Chau (if that's haow it's spelled) on Youree sells an excellent Dumpring sauce.

rhertz 10-30-2007 08:50 PM

I think the quail is served in a marsala sauce. They have a veal dish that has a blackberry sauce. I'm not crazy about fruity sauces or veal.

I guess watching birds is one thing and eating birds in an entirely different matter. :D I love both.
