Bishop urges Christians to call God 'Allah'

Catholic churches in the Netherlands should use the name Allah for God to ease tensions between Muslims and Christians, says a Dutch bishop. Tiny Muskens, the bishop of Breda, told the Dutch TV program "Network" Monday night he believes God doesn't mind what he is called, Radio Netherlands Worldwide reported. The Almighty is above such "discussion and bickering," he insisted. Muskens points to Indonesia, where he served 30 years ago, as an example for Dutch churches. Christians in the Middle East also use the term Allah for God. "Someone like me has prayed to Allah yang maha kuasa (Almighty God) for eight years in Indonesia and other priests for 20 or 30 years," Muskens said. "In the heart of the Eucharist, God is called Allah over there, so why can't we start doing that together?"       |
Don't think that'll fly in the good ole US of A...
Interesting concept, tho. |
It won't fly in this house. I just watched on FoxNews a debate where they are asking can you be both a Muslim and a Christian at the same time ? Apparently some preacher somewhere today said you can. I don't know what he is preaching but it must not be from the same bible I read.

I am that I am (Hebrew: אהיה אשר אהיה, pronounced Ehyeh asher ehyeh) is one English translation of the response God used in the Bible when Moses asked for his name (Exodus 3:14). It is one of the most famous verses in the Torah. Hayah means "existed" or "was" in Hebrew; "ehyeh" is the first person singular present/future form. Ehyeh asher ehyeh is generally interpreted to mean I am that I am (King James Bible and others), yet, as indicated, is most literally translated as "I-shall-be that I-shall-be."

I'm conflicted about this "Allah" business. Part of me agrees that its a trivial matter, since "Allah" is just another name for God, and if something as simple as this can "ease tensions" then fine, no big deal. On the other hand, Christians and Jews everywhere are just about fed up with trying to appease these bloodthirsty muslims and their damn delicate sensibilities. The muslim world wants the rest of us to walk on eggshells so as not to offend them. Allah forbid these diaperheads should get offended and pissed off at everybody, no no, that'll never do! History shows that a policy of appeasement never works...no compromise or accomodation is ever enough! Sort of a "give em an inch they take a mile" type situation. Compromise is a two-way street, and when have the achmeds ever made any concessions? When have they ever met us halfway? What, they'll promise to stop lopping off heads and bombing innocents if we all start calling God "Allah"? That sounds suspiciously like conversion to me. Screw that! The only thing these maniacs understand is overwhelming force. Just like the illegal aliens, we need to round up all the sandcritters and eject them from the country, then not let anymore of them in! Not that that will ever happen. Hell no, that would make too much sense.
