What are some of your favorite lyrics?
I thought this might be fun. What are some of your favorite lyrics? Here is one of my favorite songs.....
"Fair Warning" You know, wishing won't make it so Hoping won't do it, praying won't do it Religion won't do it, philosophy won't do it The supreme court won't do it, the president and the congress won't do it The UN won't do it, the H-bomb won't do it, the sun and the moon won't do it And God won't do it, and I certainly won't do it That leaves you, you'll have to do it! I know that you've been wondering if I'm the same man inside Never tried to fool you 'cause I've got nothing to hide I gave you fair warning I could never be tied down 'Til I've seen paradise with my very own eyes Love owns us all, Time owns us all, Life owns us all But the world doesn't own me Dontcha follow me now I ain't afraid to say I may have been wrong I have to go now I'd rather live by a dream than live by a lie And that's why There ain't no cure for what I've got baby We just have to suffer I feel no pain, I can't complain, things could always be rougher But I picked up this banner and I just can't put it down (No) I can't let the world die just 'cause no one would try Dontcha follow me now Everybody's got to find his own place in the sun, everyone So shine on me now I'd rather live by a dream then live by a lie You can say what you will about me talk is cheap and I don't mind When you lay your life down in them grooves you know you're bound to get scratched up sometime It's only just a song, pay me no mind I have to go now You've got to walk that road alone if you walk it at all Don't follow me now I gave you all fair warning Now it's goodbye And every once in a while why don't you think of me 'Cause it's a long, long time and a long way to go Can't you see the light shining in my eyes 'Cause it's just one victory 'Cause your dream goes on forever Don't you know that I've been trying to get my trip together Be a real man I got to be a real man 1, 2, 3, do it one more time Be a real man Everybody be a real man Go then, don't believe, and I don't know 'Cause I got to be a real man You can be a man, a real man I'll swim that river, climb that mountain You and me, we all gotta be, real men |
Another 2 favorite lyrics....
"Eternal Love" When your life gets too lonely It might help to feel me in your heart I remember you happy, but thought it Unfair that we are apart And it's gonna be all right 'Cause everlasting love Will get us through the night There's a new day that's dawning It brings with it skies so blue and clear I can't offer you blue skies I've only got love, eternal love Soon it's gonna be all right And the day will come When we live as one Drifting through time on an ocean of eternal love Sailing through space on an ocean of eternal love Doesn't love have a meaning To put that in words would be so hard Just remember the feeling of love in a song That's a love for real And it's gonna be all right 'Cause everlasting love Will get us through the night *********************** Hiroshima Under the rising sun, dirty yellow children play And in the red pagoda, mamasan is praying Blood wasted saving face, ancestors are looking on As they wave their silver samurai underneath the big gun Hiroshima, no one could imagine Not the victors nor the victims Pitiful survivors, nor the pawn of a man Who had the button under his hand No one would believe it God, God is on our side, he placed the power in our hands To teach the yellow peril, this is Christian mercy Harry, Harry give 'em hell, give 'em hell one more time again We'll show those axis powers how to make an oven [fry them] Hiroshima, Nagasaki Don't you ever forget, don't you ever f**kin' forget This is the official voice of the United States of America addressing the Peoples of the islands of Japan. tomorrow morning, on august 15th, 1945 at Exactly 8:15 am, we will bomb your cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima with a Blast that will level these cities. this is the only alert you will receive. |
Yeah you may have all you want baby

I wish that for just one time, you could stand inside my shoes.
And for that one moment I could be you. And I wish that for just one time, you could stand inside my shoes. Then you'd know what a drag it is to see you. -- B. Dylan LOL |

(Bye Bye) American Pie
A long long time ago
I can still remember how That music used to make me smile And I knew if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And maybe they'd be happy for a while But February made me shiver With every paper I'd deliver Bad news on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step I can't remember if I cried When I read about his widowed bride But something touched me deep inside **The day the music died** So... (Chorus) Bye, bye Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye Singin' this'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die Did you write the book of love And do you have faith in God above If the Bible tells you so? Now do you believe in rock and roll? Can music save your mortal soul? And can you teach me how to dance real slow? Well, I know that you're in love with him 'cause I saw you dancin' in the gym You both kicked off your shoes Man, I dig those rhythm and blues I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck With a pink carnation and a pickup truck But I knew I was out of luck The day the music died I started singin' (Chorus) Now, for ten years we've been on our own And moss grows fat on a rolling stone But, that's not how it used to be When the jester sang for the king and queen In a coat he borrowed from James Dean And a voice that came from you and me Oh and while the king was looking down The jester stole his thorny crown The courtroom was adjourned No verdict was returned And while Lenin read a book on Marx The quartet practiced in the park And we sang dirges in the dark The day the music died We were singin' (Chorus) Helter skelter in a summer swelter The birds flew off with a fallout shelter Eight miles high and falling fast It landed foul on the grass The players tried for a forward pass With the jester on the sidelines in a cast Now the half-time air was sweet perfume While sergeants played a marching tune We all got up to dance Oh, but we never got the chance 'cause the players tried to take the field The marching band refused to yield Do you recall what was revealed The day the music died? We started singin' (Chorus) Oh, and there we were all in one place A generation lost in space With no time left to start again So come on Jack be nimble, Jack be quick Jack Flash sat on a candlestick 'cause fire is the devil's only friend And as I watched him on the stage My hands were clenched in fists of rage No angel born in Hell Could break that Satan's spell And as the flames climbed high into the night To light the sacrificial rite I saw Satan laughing with delight The day the music died He was singin' (Chorus) I met a girl who sang the blues And I asked her for some happy news But she just smiled and turned away I went down to the sacred store Where I'd heard the music years before But the man there said the music wouldn't play And in the streets the children screamed The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed But not a word was spoken The church bells all were broken And the three men I admire most- the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost- They caught the last train for the coast The day the music died And they were singing (Chorus, 2x) http://www.understandingamericanpie.com/vs3.htm |
Ole Red, by Blake Shelton
Well I caught my wife with another man
And it cost me ninety nine On a prison farm in Georgia Close to the Florida line. Well I'd been here for two long years. I finally made the warden my friend. And so he sentenced me to a life of ease Taking care of Ol Red. Now Ol' Red he's the damnedest dog that I've ever seen. Got a nose that can smell a two day trail. He's a four legged tracking machine. You can consider yourself mighty lucky To get past the gators and the quicksand beds But all these years that I've been here Ain't nobody got past Red. (Chorus) Well I paid off the guard and I slipped out a letter To my cousin up in Tennessee. Oh and he brought down a blue tick hound She was pretty as she could be. Well they penned her up in the swampland 'Bout a mile just south of the gate. And I'd take Ol' Red for his evening run I'd just drop him off and wait. (Chorus) Now Ol' Red got real used to seeing His lady every night. And so I kept him away for three or four days And waited till the time got right. Well I made my run with the evenin' sun And I smiled when I heard 'em let Red out. 'Cause I was headed north to Tennessee And Ol' Red was headed south. (Chorus) Now there's red haired blue ticks all in the South Love got me in here and love got me out. **Chorus** And the warden sang Come on somebody Why don't you run? Ol' Red's itchin' to have a little fun. Get my lantern Get my gun Red'll have you treed before the mornin' comes. |
Rascal Flatts
Here's to You!
They got 3 in the front and 4 in the back of a Civic Camped out all night on the sidewalk just to get tickets With their hands on the fence in the back by the buses and the limousines Just to get a glimpse of a drummer or a singer yeah anything And they come from miles around for that moment when the lights go up and they scream It's the girls in the front row singin' It's the boys with the wheels that bring them It's the lighters in the air and you guys up there You're the heart and the soul and the reason we do what we do Here's to you! Oh yeah! There's a silver-tongued blonde trying to sweet talk her way back stage There's a mom and a dad in the aisle not acting their age There's a wet corvette-red lipstick print on a Coors light cup And judging by the way she's dancin' I'd say she's had enough The guitars come alive and you make us want to stay all night when you scream! Here's to you oh yeah come on Yeah here's to you oh yeah oh yeah Here's to you here's to you Oh yeah oh yeah Can anybody relate to this song???:twist: :beerchug: |

This song is a little sad, but we have all lost a loved one at one point or another (or will someday)
A Dream Goes On Forever A million old soldiers will fade away But a dream goes on forever I'm left standing here, I've got nothing to say All is silent within my dream A thousand true loves will live and die But a dream lives on forever The days and the years will go streaking by But the time has stopped in my dream We all have our everyday hopes and fears And you'll find no exception in me But that doesn't get me through a sea of tears Over life's biggest tragedy You're so long ago and so far away But my dream lives on forever I guess I believe that I'll see you one day For without it there is no dream You're so far away and so long ago But my dream goes on forever And how much I loved you you'll never know 'Til you join me within my dream |

The second one I recognize as Route 66 which I've heard recorded by many an artist. Welcome to the SBLive there GUITARMAN :peace: |
Pink Floyd has written some interesting lyrics.....
Welcome to the Machine Welcome my son, welcome to the machine. Where have you been? It's alright we know where you've been. You've been in the pipeline, filling in time, Provided with toys and 'Scouting for Boys'. You bought a guitar to punish your ma, And you didn't like school, and you know you're nobody's fool, So welcome to the machine. Welcome my son, welcome to the machine. What did you dream? It's alright we told you what to dream. You dreamed of a big star, He played a mean guitar, He always ate in the Steak Bar. He loved to drive in his Jaguar. So welcome to the Machine. ****************** Wish You Were Here So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears, wish you were here. |
OK guys see if you can pick this one out. I do like some of Pink Floyd and I loved the SBRadio that is great. I will be listening to it at work when I can and I will sure pass it on to others that like this local forum. Thanks.
Here it is ??? My old dad went a walkin' one day, Pushing tall weeds right outta his way, My old dad went a walkin' one day, Hey now, hey now Corduroy pants and an old plaid shirt, Daddy went a walkin' just to feel the earth, Got a little dirty but that's all right, Hey now, hey now Old man crossing the road, You've got to let him go, Old man crossing the road, He's feelin' fine Daddy went a ridin' in his old car, Took the dog with him 'cause it ain't too far, Daddy went ridin' in his old car, Hey now, hey now Brown leather boots and an old straw hat, Daddy's getting wood with the barnyard cat, Got a little dirty but that's all right, Hey now, hey now Old man crossing the road, You've got to let him go, Old man crossing the road, He's feelin' fine Mama's waiting at the top of the hill, They'll be laughing, oh the stories they'll tell... When he holds her in his arms again, They'll be sweethearts with time on their hands My old dad went a walkin' one day, Pushing tall weeds right outta his way, My old dad went a walkin' one day, Hey now, hey now Corduroy pants and an old plaid shirt, Daddy went a walkin' just to feel the earth, Got a little dirty but that's all right, Hey now, hey now Daddy went a ridin' in his old car, Took the dog with him 'cause it ain't too far, Daddy went ridin' in his old car, Hey now, hey now Brown leather boots and an old straw hat, Daddy's getting wood with the barnyard cat, Got a little dirty but that's all right, Hey now, hey now |
Hey that's Neil Young's Daddy Went Walking!!! From Silver and Gold! I like it alot!!!

OK Pokie see what you can do with this one. It is easy for a hard rocker like you to pick.
Breathe Breathe, breathe in the air. Don't be afraid to care. Leave but don't leave me. Look around and choose your own ground. Long you live and high you fly And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry And all you touch and all you see Is all your life will ever be. Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun, And when at last the work is done Don't sit down it's time to dig another one. |
Ya'll geat real my 3 and 4 year old kids know those. How about "Over head the albatross hangs motionless upon the air, and deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrynths of coral caves. The echo of the distant tide comes willowing across the sand and everything is green as submarine". I put my 4 year old to bed to this for weeks. Guess who?

here's some of the lyrics to a song that came out, about the same time my first son was born.. it caught my attention right away.
Well now on a summer night in a dusky room Come a little piece of the Lord's undying light Crying like he swallowed the fiery moon In his mother's arms it was all the beauty I could take Like the missing words to some prayer that I could never make In a world so hard and dirty so fouled and confused Searching for a little bit of God's mercy I found living proof |

Banks of the Ohio
I asked my love to take a walk Just a little ways with me And as we walked and we would talk All about our weddingday (chorus) Darling say that you'll be mine In our home we'll happy be Down beside where the waters flow On the banks of the Ohio (break) I took her by her pretty white hand I let her down that bank of sand I pushed her in where she would drown Lord, I saw her as she floated down (chorus) Returning home about twelve or one Thinking "Lord, what a deed I've done?" I killed the girl I love, you see Because she would not marry me (chorus) (break) The very next day at half past four The sherrif walked right to my door And he says "Young man, don't you try to run You'll pay for this awful crime you've done" |

Sometimes I try to do things and it just doesn't work out the way I wanted to.
I get real frustrated and I try hard to do it and I take my time and it doesn't work out the way I wanted to. It's like I concentrate real hard and it doesn't work out Everything I do and everything I try never turns out It's like I need time to figure these things out But there's always someone there going Hey Mike: You know we've been noticing you've been having a lot of problems lately. You know, maybe you should get away and maybe you should talk about it, maybe you'll feel a lot better And I go: No it's okay, you know I'll figure it out, just leave me alone I'll figure it out. You know I'll just work by myself. And they go: Well you know if you want to talk about it I'll be here you know and you'll probably feel a lot better if you talk about it. And I go: No I don't want to I'm okay, I'll figure it out myself and they just keep bugging me and they just keep bugging me and it builds up inside and it builds up inside. So you're gonna be institutionalized You'll come out brainwashed with bloodshot eyes You won't have any say They'll brainwash you until you see their way. I'm not crazy - institutionalized You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized You're driving me crazy - institutionalized They stuck me in an institution Said it was the only solution To give me the needed professional help To protect me from the enemy, myself I was in my room and I was just like staring at the wall thinking about everything But then again I was thinking about nothing And then my mom came in and I didn't even know she was there she called my name And I didn't even hear it, and then she started screaming: MIKE! MIKE! And I go: What, what's the matter And she goes: What's the matter with you? I go: There's nothing-wrong mom. And she goes: Don't tell me that, you're on drugs! And I go: No mom I'm not on drugs I'm okay, I was just thinking you know, why don't you get me a Pepsi. And she goes: NO you're on drugs! I go: Mom I'm okay, I'm just thinking. She goes: No you're not thinking, you're on drugs! Normal people don't act that way! I go: Mom just give me a Pepsi please All I want is a Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me. Just a Pepsi. They give you a white shirt with long sleeves Tied around you're back, you're treated like thieves Drug you up because they're lazy It's too much work to help a crazy I'm not crazy - institutionalized You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized You're driving me crazy - institutionalized They stuck me in an institution Said it was the only solution To give me the needed professional help To protect me from the enemy, myself I was sitting in my room and my mom and my dad came in and they pulled up a chair and they sat down, they go: Mike, we need to talk to you And I go: Okay what's the matter They go: Me and your mom have been noticing lately that you've been having a lot of problems, You've been going off for no reason and we're afraid you're gonna hurt somebody, We're afraid you're gonna hurt yourself. So we decided that it would be in your interest if we put you somewhere Where you could get the help that you need. And I go: Wait, what do you mean, what are you talking about, we decided!? My best interest?! How can you know what's my best interest is? How can you say what my best interest is? What are you trying to say, I'm crazy? When I went to your schools, I went to your churches, I went to your institutional learning facilities?! So how can you say I'm crazy. They say they're gonna fix my brain Alleviate my suffering and my pain But by the time they fix my head Mentally I'll be dead I'm not crazy - institutionalized You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized You're driving me crazy - institutionalized They stuck me in an institution Said it was the only solution To give me the needed professional help To protect me from the enemy, myself It doesn't matter their insurance money is about to run out anyhow. |
Hmmmm, Brain you trying to tell us something? LOL

That title reminds me of another tune: We gotta get you a woman Leroy, boy, is that you? I thought your post-hangin days were through, Sunk-in eyes and full of sighs, Tell no lies, you get wise, I tell you now were gonna pull you through, Theres only one thing left that we can do. We gotta get you a woman, Its like nothin else to make you feel sure you're alive. We gotta get you a woman, We better get walkin, were wastin time talkin now. Leroy, boy, you're my friend You say how and I'll say when Come and meet me down the street Take a seat, its my treat You may not ever get this chance again That empty feelings just about to end. Talkin bout life and what it means to you, It dont mean nothin if it dont run through I got one thing to say, you know its true You got to find some time to get this thing together. Talkin' bout things about that special one They may be stupid but they sure are fun Ill give it to you while were on the run Because we aint got time to get this thing together, cause we Got to get together with a woman who has been around, One who knows better than to let you down, Lets hope theres still one left in this whole town, And that shell take some time to get this thing together. We gotta get you a woman And when were through with you, Well get me one too. |
