They did try. After we chased him out of Kuwait, there was an uprising that failed and he retailiated once again on his own people. The question is where were we during that time? We lost quite a bit of credibility with Iraqi's at that moment. But if you point is that we should have taken care of business during the first conflict, yes then I agree.

About 100 mourners

This report speaks loudly about his popularity in his own country.

Putting relatives aside, I hope the CIA was there taking names.

(I'm sure the list of relatives would have been longer had he not executed so many of his own kinfolk.)

And a Happy New year to you too LateNight! It sure is getting off to a mighty good start.

I'm normally not pro-capital punishment, but in some extreme cases, it does seem like the punishment does fit the crime. I do not think it would be wise to formulate an exit strategy in Iraq leaving the Butcher of Bagdad alive with even a remote possibility of escape or release. On the other hand, there is always someone waiting in the sidelines to emerge as a new dictator.

"It is reported that Saddam Hussein's last words were "Muqtada al-Sadr", in response to an executioner shouting "long live Muqtada al-Sadr" as he was being hanged on 30 December 2006."

I would have to agree.. I'm not much for the death penalty either. But yea, he had it coming :)

I even watched the video that Isaac posted, pretty bad quality however. I saw where CNN was showing another, better quality video, but it stops before the deed is done, shortly after the noose is placed around his neck..

Hussein executed with 'fear in his face'

Maybe they will all get on that same map which is the road map to peace ? I thought it to be funny that Saddam blasted the Persians as he was about to die ? Water runs and blood clots. Arabs and Persians are not of the same stock ! Well it is over and I am glad. Ever wonder when the Jones move out just who might move in ? I am sure someone evil will make a run for the spot.

He got off light...so did his sons. They shouldve taken the two sons alive and fed them into a plastic shredder...or to a big cat. A good punishment for daddy mightve been gassing.

I would agree. I think the idea of throwing him to the lions would be a good one and I do not think he had the resolve that Daniel had nor the back up plan. Wow what a way to see 06 close out with Saddam looking up that rope ! Welcome to 07 may it be our best year yet.
Isaac

Edit : for all of you that are against the death penalty but think in this case it was ok or a good thing then I say you are riding the fence. Look around America at the victims in stead of the poor criminals that took a life or raped someone. The murders and rapist get all the press and poor me baby because they got that jail house religion. We have a system that gives them way to much time and we the tax payer pay to keep them alive when they should be dispatched to God and let Him be the judge.

I'm with Ron White on that issue, Isaac. They shouldn't sit on death row for 15 years and eat up our tax money that is taking care of them. Just do what they with Saddam. Give him 30 days! If your crime was serious enough that you get the death penalty, then I'd be willing to support you long enough to nervously aticipate your death within a month's time but no longer.

On this topic, though, good riddance to Saddam. Now if only we could catch that @$$#0!3, Bin Laden.
