An acting co-op is an organization formed by actors for actors, and run by actors who give performances in the theater or in films. River City Repertory Theatre in Bossier City was founded by some of Shreveport’s well known actors including Jim Montgomery, Patric McWilliams, Candace Higginbotham, Anne Gremillion, Seva May, Robert Buseick, Ruth Doreck and Ashley Beckham and although it may not be operated and managed as a true co-op, it does offer local actors the opportunity to work with nationally known professionals.

An informal acting co-op could be forming at the Actor’s Café

There has been some discussion on Thursday nights backstage at the Actor’s Café located at 1401 Fairfield Ave. in Shreveport about forming an actor’s co-op. The Actors Showcase occurs every Thursday night at the Actor’s Café and this is when aspiring actors are given a chance to showcase their talents by performing a scene or a monologue for 5 minutes. Contestants receive free beverages, one winner is selected each Thursday night, and every 8 weeks a final winner is chosen by professional movie casting directors. Quasi-seminars are also given from time to time by professional actors such as GregAlan Williams who conducted an all-day coaching session in which amateur actors received constructive criticism related to whatever scene they performed as well as a video tape of their scene to take home and study.
